Our Story
The earliest memory I have of the lake that I live next to is an image the bar headed geese that would come every monsoon paddling around the grey waters of Doddanekundi Lake as my family and I watched from our balcony. I grew up running, cycling and taking long evening walks around the lake and have watched it change with each passing year. Fast forward to 2020- birds that visited the lake were deterred by the thick green carpet of hyacinth that covered the water’s surface. Sewage and eutrophication were the main culprits.
I started Aboat Time in March 2021 and plan to expand to lakes across Bengaluru and Karnataka. Doddanekundi is just the beginning!
Our Journey
What began as an initiative to spread awareness on the need to save our lakes and the urgency of the situation has blossomed into so much more. We have created huge impact on ground and have expanded into more than just a campaign, with fundraisers, volunteer sessions, cleanup drives and research papers all being added to our constantly growing journey.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to provide more information about the current status of their local lakes. Making detailed and accurate information more easily available is the first step to change.
OUR VISION
We plan on expanding to lakes all across the country and on roping in government bodies and agencies to tie up with. In the bigger picture, we aim to tackle UN SDGs 11, 13 and 14.
